ICE HIKE ON GREY GLACIER + KAYAK GREY LAKE

AN ANDEAN ADVENTURE

The ice hike lasts approximately 5 hours, with daily departures at 8:00 AM. We’ll navigate in a zodiac boat for 20 minutes to the main tongue of Grey Glacier. Upon arrival, we’ll disembark on the glacier island (Nunatak) and begin a one-hour walk on the glacial moraine to reach the ice and access it safely.

Before entering the glacier, the guide will give a safety briefing, explaining ice movement techniques and proper equipment use. After the briefing, the unmatched ice hike adventure will begin, lasting about 2.5 hours, observing crevasses, rivers, lagoons, tunnels, and ice caves.

The kayak expedition lasts approximately 2.5 hours, departing at 2:00 PM. During the first part of the excursion, we’ll paddle near large floating icebergs, then head towards the eastern tongue of Grey Glacier to enjoy and contemplate the spectacular scenery, with impressive ancient ice walls. Our operations base and meeting point is on the other side of Grey Lake, in the Grey refuge area, and our excursions depart from our base camp located in the Grey refuge beach area.

You’ll travel to Grey beach by private transfer, then navigate with the Grey III vessel belonging to Hotel Lago Grey to the Grey refuge. You’ll need to stay overnight at the refuge to do the ice hike in the morning and the kayak in the afternoon.
